The production index for manufacturersz reporting an increase in productiojn in June from May was9 — its first forat into positive territory sincee August. About 33 percent of companies surveyed said productiomwas up, and aboutr 22 percent said it was down. The index was at -3 in May and -8 a year ago. Productionb indexes increased for durable andnondurable goods-producinf plants. The indexes for shipments, new orderas and order backlog all increased forthe second-straightt month and emerged from negative territory. The employmentf index was -10 in June, up from -13 in May. It was at -9 a year ago. The averagse employee workweek indexhit 3, jumping from -14 in May and -3 a year ago.
The indexs had been negative since August. Inventories for materials and finishe goodsremained negative, worsening from May to June and from last The future-production outlook index reached 13, up from 1 in May and down from 17 a year ago. The future capital expenditures index fellto -13 in June from -10 in May. The bank said most firmx indicated “some lingering hesitancyg on major investments due to the only recengt pickupin activity.” The 10th district covers Western Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyominv and northern New Mexico.
